UNIVERSAL MUSIC - POLYDOR/ISLAND
Crossover music? Doesn't work, too daring, there's no market and no audience for it - when David Garrett tried to convince record companies of a new concept ten years ago, he initially met with nothing but resistance. But he believed in his idea and pursued his plans with the same persistence that made him, a graduate of New York's famous Juilliard School, one of the world's best violinists of his generation. And he was to be proven right: Between 2007 and 2017, David Garrett released ten albums, all of which went multiplatinum or gold, sold millions of copies worldwide, and earned him a reputation as a musical border crosser who is as intrepid as he is brilliant.
"Unlimited" - the title of David Garrett's first Greatest Hits album could therefore not be more fitting. On the 21 (standard version) or 37 (deluxe version) songs, the five-time ECHO Classic and three-time ECHO Pop winner looks back on the greatest hits of the past ten years, including "Viva La Vida", "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Cry Me A River", "Dangerous" and "He's A Pirate ("Pirates Of The Caribbean")". But not only that: "Unlimited" holds no less than six brand new songs from Garrett, plus fans can look forward to four new acoustic versions of his successful tracks ("Smooth Criminal," "Walk This Way," "Air," "Asturias") and "Toccata" in a new arrangement by the violin virtuoso (see track listing below).
"It was very important to me to not just put together a classic greatest hits album, but to record brand new and unreleased tracks for my fans at the same time", comments David Garrett, who emphasizes: "This album is something very special for me, namely my 10th anniversary. Of course I want to celebrate this especially with my fans and at the same time thank them for their loyalty and belief in me as a person and as a musician. I do this with these very special new tracks for me." Specifically, this is Garrett's reinterpretation of "Leningrad" (Billy Joel), "The Show Must Go On" (Queen), "Musica É" (Eros Ramazotti), "She's Out Of My Life" (Michael Jackson), "The Best Of Me" (David Foster) and "Hey Jude" (The Beatles).
Anyone who has experienced David Garrett live knows about the incredible energy of his performances, this very special atmosphere with which he can virtually electrically charge entire arenas. In these moments, the songs also unfold their very own, new character - a fact that Garrett gives its deserved space with the four new acoustic versions on the album: "With these pieces I associate overwhelming, positive emotions that I was allowed to experience during live performances and it was important to me to convey exactly these emotions in an unplugged version", said the 38-year-old. "My most beautiful highlight every evening is my enthusiasm for music, which I can bring to the audience together with my band. Making people happy, letting them forget everyday life and giving them joy is the greatest gift for me."
And it should remain so for many years to come, because for David Garrett the Greatest Hits album is at least as much a look back as it is a look forward - not for nothing is "Unlimited" so richly stocked with new material. "I am very much looking forward to the future, to continue to realize myself musically, without borders", comments the star violinist, whose courage was rewarded ten years ago. "I believe in hard work and that with a lot of effort you can achieve a lot in life" Garrett commented. "But to have this success, I would not have dared to dream."
David Garrett - Unlimited (Greatest Hits) will be released on October 26, 2018 as a CD with 6 new as well as 4 newly arranged songs, as a Deluxe Edition including a bonus CD with 16 additional tracks, as well as digitally.
