UNIVERSAL MUSIC - GERMAN GRAMOPHONE
The offer of Deutsche Grammophon to record the violin concertos of Tchaikovsky and Conus in Moscow became a memorable and moving experience for me. Besides the artistic impressions I gathered during my stay, this trip to today's democratic Russia also gave me the opportunity to get to know the homeland of my ancestors and thus 'discover' my Russian roots. My paternal grandmother had to flee Russia before Stalin's dictatorship, while my great-grandfather perished in a Siberian internment camp.
Standing on the podium in front of the Moscow audience, I felt a touch of that longing that many Russian musicians must have felt after leaving their homeland. In this way, these recordings also mean a fulfillment of my own nostalgic dreams.
I would like to dedicate this CD to my mentor and good friend Ida Haendel, whose genius will always be a source of inspiration to me.
